The Loss of Trust in Mainstream Media During COVID-19: Jeffrey Tucker’s Testimony

Jeffrey A. Tucker, the founder and president of Brownstone Institute
Published on April 25, 2023

Jeffrey A. Tucker, is the president of the Brownstone Institute, the world’s leading think tank on the Covid 19 policy file.  On April 14th, 2023 he testified to the National Citizens Inquiry on COVID-19 hearings in Winnipeg.  He explained how the mainstream media’s uniformity of opinion forces people to turn to other platforms for a wider view.  According to Tucker, the internet replaced print media over the last 25 years, and the industry reorganized so that even local media was dependent on centralized media sources which left them with little independence. Tucker claimed that citizen journalism on platforms like Substack and Twitter is now the only place where independent news reporting happens. He stated that controlling the news has become crucial to corrupt bureaucracies and governments, becoming most obvious during the recent pandemic period. Tucker also criticized media for self-censorship, not drawing any connection to lockdowns and public health responses. He further suggested that governments should remove national security controls over big media venues, but they are conflicted because antitrust authorities in any country are not interested in breaking up big media because it serves their interests.
