The Daily Mail has a very good piece on wind turbines.
It argues that the subsidies given wind turbines in Britain are based on three “lies.”
1) That wind turbines produce their capacity (which is always talked about) when in actual fact they produce only a quarter of that on average.
2) That wind turbines are economically viable (the article claims that some get subsidies worth more than their output).
3) That wind turbines substantially reduce GHG emissions.
The whole article is well worth the read. Subsidies are the enemy not only of the taxpayer but of the smart environmentalist, because they divert resources into silly enterprises.
