More evidence that mandatory nutrition labels on menus at fast food restaurants don’t appear to work.

When a social problem as serious as widespread obesity exists, there is enormous pressure on governments to be seen as “doing something” about it – even if that “something” is completely ineffective. Public awareness campaigns, label regulations, etc. might not actually improve the situation, but they are visible efforts that guard governments against charges of indifference and inaction. So I don’t expect this sort of evidence to have much impact on policymaking, but it is interesting nonetheless.
