Breaking News: Rent Control Still Bad Policy

A Frontier Centre Op-ed in the Saskatoon Star Phoenix explains why rent control fails.

At least according to this Frontier Op-ed published today in the Saskatoon Star Phoenix.

Manitoba’s rent control Jerusalem is a mirage. Even a study commissioned by a Manitoba government that strongly supports the policy insists that it has little effect on rental rates, whereas rent control that did hold them down would make the rental market worse, not better.

As Manitoba’s rent-control-that-isn’t illustrates incely, the only way rent control can work is if it doesn’t. Saskatchewan deserves better.
