Wendel Cox has released an interesting analysis of urban sprawl.
I particularly like his idea of authorizing municipalities to create new urban districts to accommodate growth. To me, this concept of creating “satellite towns” could support the intelligent expansion of infrastructure as well as mass transit opportunities with both costs being paid by developers.
In rural Manitoba, it is currently challenging to sub-divide land to create new urban clusters. This policy needs to be re-thought so marginal farm land can be converted to higher value uses.
