The Globe and Mail has published an interesting article on Chinese investment in genetic research and sequencing.
Forty years ago, Canada also invested public funds in this type of research, part of which resulted in the development of canola.
I wonder today where the funding is coming from to keep out public sector labs competitive with Chinese operations in basic research like this? In this new global world, is there not a need to fund Ag Canada and the National Research Council to perform this type of foundation building research that can launch new innovations into our economy?
