Mobile Data – What is Unlimited?

A bit of truth in advertising is called for.
Published on November 20, 2011

From the BBC, this article discusses the state of “unlimited” data plans on smart phones.

“First of all, be very clear about what they mean by unlimited in the advertisements,” he advised.

“Secondly, give advice to consumers so they know when they’re reaching their limit.

“And thirdly, give advice on the amount of data that’s being downloading.”

Those are good suggestions.  I would like to add a 4th one.  Service providers should not be allowed to promote “unlimited” use when the fine print reveals that there is a limit.  One service provider in Manitoba for example promotes “unlimited” data usage which in reality is capped at 10 Gb per month.  A bit of truth in advertising is called for.
