So, the union wants to initiate strike action at Canada Post this Thursday. The big question is whether anyone will notice and be inconvenienced, or will most people welcome the absence of junk mail filling up their recycling box?
I don’t have a problem with them initiating that action against management. The union and the management of the Canada Post Corporation deserve each other.
However, I do suggest that during strike action, the government should immediately remove any restrictions on competing companies who wish to move letter mail. That would be an interesting, time limited experiment to explore how competition in the mail service sector could work. Heck, it might even be possible that rural areas might experience improved quality of service and lead a national call for competition to be made a permanent element of the sector.
